I’m sure you’ve noticed that The Thrifty Gent has been inactive for the last couple of months.  Summer heat – this has been the hottest summer on record for Louisville – and a relaxed dress code at work have meant that I haven’t been dressing up much recently.  Plus, I’ve been obsessed with acquiring and learning to ride a motorcycle, and one obsession is all Mrs. Gent will reasonably tolerate at one time.

But, thankfully, fall is here, in temperature if not officially, and hopefully I’ll be updating more regularly.  Today’s suit is a recent thrift acquisition, a ’60s-vintage suit made by H. Freeman of Philadelphia for Rodes, a local upscale department store.  It’s a neat shade of blue-gray that has slight green (teal?) tones in certain lighting.  I didn’t have anything like it in my wardrobe.

Suit: Vintage H. Freeman, thrifted, $8

Shirt: Brooks Brothers, store sale, $40

Tie: Brooks Brothers, store discount, $25

Shoes: Johnston & Murphy Aristocraft, thrifted, $12

Alterations: $15

Total: $100

If I’d paid retail prices: Hard to say given the suit’s age, but to buy its equivalent today, easily over $1000.

Intensely jealous of the H. Freeman for Rodes suit. Classic look with the BB #1 tie.
