Some people say you shouldn’t wear brown shoes with navy suits; some say they don’t go with gray suits.  I say either is fine, and they’re a much more interesting choice than plain black.

Suit: Kingsridge, thrifted, $20

Shirt: Brooks Brothers, thrifted, $5

Tie: Brooks Brothers, outlet sale, $20

Shoes: Allen Edmonds Park Avenues, eBay, $40

Alterations: $10

Total: $95

If I’d paid retail prices: $1100 or more

Dark brown shoes seem okay to me with navy, and work well with grey. In the past I’ve worn black shoes much more with a grey suit, but recently I’ve been using dark brown shoes.
My conclusion is that they work with grey better than navy; I still wear black shoes more with navy trousers.

That’s a good look! The right shade of tan might also work with gray and navy.

Hear, hear! Brown shoes with anything and everything!

I like a nice pair of black shoes as much as the next guy, but they’re so overly relied on, overly done, and well, boring!

    Very Nice.

Did you ever receive a comment from the Netherlands? I stumbled upon your blog and was so pleased!

There are so many girls’ blogs about (good) taste and thrifting, but you’re the only man I’ve come across with Class (with a capitalised C) a blog and my Favourite Pastime as a way of life!

Keep up the good work and count me in as your new loyal reader!

    Best regards,
