I’ve never quite known what to do with black loafers.  Loafers, in my opinion, are an inherently casual shoe, and black is the most formal color for shoes.  Shell cordovan also tends to be somewhat casual in my book, so black shell loafers have really been neither fish nor fowl in my book.  But I recently came across these Aldens at an unbeatable price, and I’ve been slowly trying to work them into my rotation.  I’m still not sure I like them, but they’re growing on me.

Blazer: Schupp & Snyder, thrifted, $20

Pants: Custom, gift, $0

Shirt: Brooks Brothers, sale, $30

Tie: American Living, clearance, $5

Pocket square: Stein Mart, $10

Shoes: Alden Leisure Handsewn, consignment store, $60

Total: $125

If I’d paid retail prices: $1200 or more

FWIW, the shoes rock! Keep them in rotation.
